Early detection of various ocular conditions is key to ensuring proper eye and visual development in children. As much as 80% of learning is achieved through the visual system. Our goal is to ensure that each child seen in our practice is able to achieve their goals with healthy sight. From myopia management to visual therapy training, Drs. Stokol and Fagala can recommend the appropriate therapy options.

InfantSEE Examination

Eye or visual problems in infants can cause developmental delays. It is important to detect conditions early to ensure babies have the opportunity to develop the visual abilities they need to grow and learn. Under the InfantSEE program, Dr. Fagala provides a comprehensive infant eye assessment between 6 and 12 months of age free of charge regardless of family income or access to insurance coverage.

Myopia Control

Studies show that nearsightedness or myopia, is becoming more prevalent among school aged children. Myopia is linked to a higher risk of ocular complications, such as retinal detachments, cataracts, glaucoma or macular disease. While myopia cannot be reversed, our goal is to slow down the rate of progression with various interventions. Lifestyle changes, contacts lenses or pharmaceutical treatment options which may be recommended during your child’s comprehensive examination.

Our Technology

Always Innovative

Our state-of-the-art technology helps us to properly diagnose and closely monitor sight-threatening conditions. The following are crucial for doing so.

Visual field Testing

Visual field Testing – Humphrey Field Analyzer

The Humphrey Field Analyzer is considered the gold standard in visual field testing. It can help us to diagnose and manage neuro-ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma, field loss due to stroke, aneurysms, tumors, optic nerve disease associated with multiple sclerosis, and elevated intracranial pressure.

Zeiss Cirrus OCT

Zeiss Cirrus OCT

This high-resolution non-invasive B-scan allows us to measure changes in the retina or optic nerve on a microscopic level. It is critical in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and macular degeneration. It allows to visualize what is below the surface of the retina (tissue lining the inside of the eye), and make predictions about ocular disease progression.

Optomap

Optomap

This wide angle camera allows us to visualize 200 degrees, or approximately 80%, of the retina without dilation, in a single capture.

Unlike full-spectrum white light used in conventional devices, Optomap technology incorporates low-powered laser wavelengths that scan simultaneously.  This allows a review of the retinal substructures in their individual laser separations. In a healthy individual, the Optomap is a wonderful way to screen for ocular disease. When pathology is found, this technology can help us to identify the location and size of various lesions.

Huvitz Digital Refraction System

Huvitz Digital Refraction System

We no longer spin dials to measure patients’ glasses prescriptions, we instead control the process using a digital console that controls the lenses inside the phoropter. The digital system includes an auto-refractor, digital refractor, and lensmeter.  This system is much more efficacious and accurate than traditional refraction systems.

Cameras

Cameras – Anterior Segment and Posterior Segment

These cameras allow us to obtain baseline measurements for close monitoring. They are helpful in monitoring the appearance of ocular lesions and in glaucoma management.
